Emoji Emoticon Karaoke Party

August 4, by Shellie Wilson. Leave a Comment

Right. Go ahead, say it. I’m lazy. I know. This party was two years ago, and I’m writing it up now. But anyway, you didn’t come here to read about how lazy I am. You came here to see how awesome this party was!

Around June I told my mom that I wanted a karaoke party. By July, I wanted an emoji party. And by August, I wanted the hybrid.

My mom was not fazed by this (she’s had a couple of odd birthday party requests) and so we began planning.

As the kids arrived we took photos with some photo booth props. My dad, in the photo, is using an emoji balloon which we bulk bought and you can also grab them here. It was an awesome start to the party because everyone wanted to take photos with their friends and the moms and dads could also snap some pics as they dropped their kids off.

Next, we pulled out the good ol’ game of Twister in the backyard. We actually printed off some doughnuts and emojis and stuck them onto the regular Twister colours. We used clear adhesive tape to fix them to the sheet. The photo above explains it better than I ever could. Twister was great, and the kids had fun playing it, especially as it had an emoticon twist.

Of course, next the kids hit the party food. If you scroll down you can see what we did…

We had cheese rings, watermelon slices, musk sticks, gummy bears, gummy clouds, hard-boiled sweets, pink sprinkled cookies, cupcakes with pink icing and a Freckle on top, mini doughnuts (which we made out of circular cookies with sprinkles on top), cupcakes with pink marbled icing and sugar emojis on top… yeah, a heap of food.

I’m opening presents in the photo, but behind me is the karaoke station. We cut out musical notes from black card and taped them to the walls, and we used a thin emoji blanket as a backdrop, which was really nice. We didn’t hire a karaoke machine – instead, we used an app on the iPad that is called Sing! Karaoke (created by Smule) and the kids had loads of fun just using that. We did have to upgrade the app to VIP to use all songs, but the app gave you a free seven days so we just activated it just before the party.

By then, the kids were actually hungry, so we ordered some pizzas and set them up on a black table outside, and we used a pizza towel which you can get here as a tablecloth.

Of course, my family had to surprise me with a giant emoji (a.k.a. my dad) who dropped candy on the floor. We used the life-sized emoji as a pinata, and the kids loved it. Unforch, there are no great pics. I think everyone was too stunned!

After that surprise, it was cake time. We used yellow icing and stuck red fondant hearts on the outside. With blue icing, we created a drip effect, then piled on the candy and chocolate. Yum-o!

I forgot this bit! We used emoji balloons for most of the decor and heaps of emoji printables (which we made ourselves) in frames. We served pineapple Fanta and even let the kids make their own sodas using a  SodaStream, which was uber cool. You can grab a SodaStream here.

We wrote hashtags on mini chalkboards, which really added a cool feel to the room. You can also see the gift bags in the photo. The little bags were really cute, and a must. Get them here. Inside the bags we put…

We opened pressies, and then kids began to drift home. A bang of a party, I can tell you!

Of course, below are your FREE PRINTABLES!!! Yup, your next emoji party is gonna be a breeze! Use ’em well… and have some fun at your party!!
